In the evocative space that once was the headquarters of the Venetian maritime tradition, Original Signs brings to the stage thirty performers of multifaceted artistic character who will lead the audience on a journey of exploration of signs.
Different creative languages to narrate the timeless human need to express oneself and find a place in the earthly world, the celestial world, and the imaginary world.
ORIGINAL SIGNS
9 evenings featuring 18 performances, totaling 540 hours of shows seen by over 26,000 guests (including 5,500 Venetians with free admission), with 30 artists (9 dancers, 1 LIS dancer, 8 fire manipulators, 1 vertical acrobat, 2 actors, 1 flyboarder, 8 percussionists), aboard 6 boats guided by 6 pilots. In total, about a hundred people were involved, including staff and artists.
The show took place from Friday, February 10th, to Sunday, February 12th, and from Thursday, February 16th, to Tuesday, February 21st, with two performances daily at 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM.

A show that featured the energetic movements of the Ranbov dancers on the water, the ethereal grace of acrobat Viola Cappelli, and the expressive dance of Isabella Moro, narrating the celestial world with Sign Language. On stage, the athletic gesture of the flyboard transformed into an artistic motion emerging from the water to ascend towards the sky.
And with water, its complementary element couldn’t be missed: fire, which in Original Signs was skillfully manipulated by the Opera Fiammae Company and the French Compagnie Ilotopie, enhanced by the powerful live rhythm of Psycodrummers, unconventional percussionists.
The thrilling nighttime setting of the Arsenal was made unique by a dense scenography of dancing fountains, lights, and videos created through the blend of technological artistry between Viorica, Antica Proietteria, and Moonlight.
A production by Vela Spa for the Carnival of Venice 2023.
